In the end, the "formula" for stopping an active attacker is pretty simple. Close with the enemy and exact more violence on them than they can overcome. The problem is that most humans (even police officers) have become indoctrinated into believing picking up the tool of violence makes you a "bad person". Violence doesn't make you a bad person. Violence is a tool that you can use when/if you need it. Get comfortable with violence.
