The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum was published in 1900 and became a huge hit. Baum would end up writing 13 sequels for a total of 14 Oz books.

After his death in 1919, the publisher arranged for Ruth Plumly Thomson to continue the series and write original Oz stories. She wrote 19 Oz books before passing the torch to John R. Neil.

The first 40 Oz books are considered by Oz collectors to be the “Famous Forty” and are the canonical books of Oz.

We have nearly all of the Famous Forty in our Rare Book Room right now. Some are first printings, others are not. We also have some non-Oz titles by Baum.
