The back stroke is easier than the butterfly and the breast stroke, so it is taught earlier in swimming lessons. It’s similar to the crawl because you use alternating windmill arm movements and a flutter kick.
In most cases, swimming is classified as an aerobic exercise because it requires a constant supply of oxygen for your muscles; however, it is also anaerobic in short sprints.
Learning how to swim allows someone the confidence to try other water sports, from jet-skiing and sailing to power boats and deep sea fishing.
