Due to expected inclement weather, Truevine Missionary Baptist Church will not hold in-person worship this Sunday.

We made this decision with care, keeping in mind the safety of our congregation, especially those who would need to travel in difficult conditions. While we value gathering together, we also believe wisdom sometimes calls us to protect one another by staying home.

We encourage you to spend Sunday in prayer, Scripture, and rest, and to check in on one another as you are able.

Please stay safe, and we look forward to worshiping together again soon.

Jesus’ parable of the unforgiving servant is often reduced to a simple moral lesson: forgive or else.

But Jesus is doing something far more searching.

The servant’s original debt threatened his family, his future, his survival. That kind of fear leaves a mark. Trauma teaches people to secure themselves at all costs, even after relief arrives. So when his debt is forgiven, he immediately goes out and demands payment from someone else, not because he is evil, but because fear is still driving him.

Jesus understands that.
And then He says, "Be better."

Grace does not erase responsibility. Being harmed never gives us permission to harm others. God does not forgive us so we can become spiritual collection agents, keeping records of what people owe us.

In a moment shaped by anxiety, resentment, and scarcity, Jesus calls His people to live differently. That kind of obedience requires emotional honesty, naming what is happening beneath our reactions, and spiritual maturity, choosing mercy over survival instincts.

Forgiven people are called to become forgiving people.
Not because it is easy.
But because the King has already canceled the debt.

Matthew 18:21-35
