Focused Friday✨ where we bring you recommended self-help books written by professionals in the field!

The quest for perfection is exhausting and unrelenting. There is a constant barrage of social expectations that teach us that being imperfect is synonymous with being inadequate. Everywhere we turn, there are messages that tell us who, what and how we’re supposed to be. So, we learn to hide our struggles and protect ourselves from shame, judgment, criticism and blame by seeking safety in pretending and perfection.

Based on seven years of her ground-breaking research and hundreds of interviews, I Thought It Was Just Me shines a long-overdue light on an important truth: Our imperfections are what connect us to each other and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we’re all in this together.

Brown writes, “We need our lives back. It’s time to reclaim the gifts of imperfection—the courage to be real, the compassion we need to love ourselves and others, and the connection that gives true purpose and meaning to life. These are the gifts that bring love, laughter, gratitude, empathy and joy into our lives.”

Mental Health Monday: Together We Heal ✨

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on the unique mental health challenges faced by minority communities. By raising awareness and understanding, we can support each other in seeking the help we deserve.

Did you know? ✨
- African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population, yet they are less likely to seek treatment.
- Latinx individuals are less likely to receive mental health care, with only 36% of those experiencing mental health issues seeking help.
- Native American and Alaskan Native communities have the highest su***de rates of any racial or ethnic group in the U.S.
- Nearly half of multiracial adults with a mental illness receive no treatment.
- Sexual assault is also a significant issue, with 1 in 3 Indigenous women experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime.

These statistics highlight the barriers many minorities face in accessing mental health care, including stigma, lack of culturally competent providers, and socioeconomic factors. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and everyone deserves to have access to mental health care.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reaching out to community organizations, trusted healthcare providers, or mental health professionals can make a big difference. Let’s support and uplift each other by promoting understanding, compassion, and access to resources. Your mental health matters. ✨
