Charles can't wait to find his special person. This sweet, goofy pit bull mix is equal parts explorer and cuddle bug. He loves walks, car rides, sprinklers, puzzle toys, and curling up in your lap for a nap. Charles has some low vision, but it doesn't slow him down one bit. He's happy, playful, eager to learn, and great with kids, cats, and new adventures.

His ideal home will provide a consistent environment and lots of love, and in return, Charles will be the most loyal, affectionate sidekick you could ask for. Could your family be the happy ending he's been waiting for?

Charles is the last of the Up Puppies to be adopted! We are sure that the perfect family is out there for this special boy. If you know anyone that would be the perfect match for Charles, tag them below.

Just like his sister Ellie, Charles has low vision issues. Ellie was diagnosed with retinal atrophy (RA). Retinal atrophy is a recessive genetic condition, and Charles has a 25% chance of having inherited the genes for it. While Charles has not been diagnosed with RA at this time, his low vision is consistent with the condition, and he is on a special vitamin to support his eye health. Our vet is monitoring his condition and all information we learn about Charles will be provided to potential adopters. Please feel free to message for more information or with questions.

What does low vision mean for a dog like Charles? Charlesโ€™ vision issues donโ€™t seem to slow him down; he can find every sprinkler head in the neighborhood and locates an empty lap like a champ. It does mean he likes consistency in the placement of furniture in the home, and that he can sometimes miss cues from other animals when they tire of his puppy exuberance, so patient introductions set him up for success. The same goes for new people: sudden movements and loud noises can startle him, so taking time to introduce him to people and lots of treats helps him to feel at ease with new stimuli. Once the introduction is made, he makes you feel part of his pack. Kids are among his favorite people!

Sounds are important for Charles; they help him ground himself in the home. He sleeps with a sound machine to help him feel situated when he wakes up in the morning (he sleeps through the night!), and when the house is empty, some background noise or his sound machine is much appreciated.

His low vision isnโ€™t affecting his puppy skills development. Charles walks well on his leash (with the occasional detour to check out a sprinkler) and greatly enjoys his walks. While his vision may be limited, his nose certainly isnโ€™t! He is a quick learner and has picked up sit, down, no, and shake. He has also done well with the cats in his foster home, and he has not shown any concerning behavior around other small animals.

We are heartbroken to announce the loss of one of the Bovine Bunch pups. At under 4 oz, and not gaining weight, sweet Jersey crossed the rainbow bridge. Sometimes in rescue, the cards are stacked against you. No matter how hard you try, the pup just fails to thrive. We are grateful that we were able to show Jersey love before she passed. ๐Ÿ˜ข ๐Ÿ˜‡ ๐Ÿพ

Charles is getting in on all the action and cheering on his favorite team, USA! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โšฝ

Playful, snuggly, and goofy, Charles is a darling puppy with a friendly personality and joy for life. His foster describes him as incredibly sweet and loving; he exists to be loved and give love in return. He loves walks, snuggles, chew toys, snuggles, games, puzzles, snuggles, and car rides. Charles thinks he is a lap dog, and he relishes napping while cuddled up next to a person. He also loves sprinklers. This pup has yet to meet a burst of water he did not want to splash in! Charles would be content to spend hours playing in the water.

This afternoon, Charles will be cheering on Team USA!

The fireworks might be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for our four-legged friends. Keep your pup safe and calm this holiday with these quick tips:

๐Ÿพ Keep them indoors : Even the calmest dogs can bolt when scared. Make sure doors, windows, and fences are secure.

๐ŸŽ† Skip the fireworks : Leave your pup at home if youโ€™re heading to a show.

๐Ÿ”Š Drown out the noise: Try a white noise machine, calming music, or the TV.

๐Ÿฆฎ ID is a must: Make sure your dogโ€™s tags and microchip info are up-to-date.

๐Ÿถ Create a safe space : A cozy crate or quiet room can help them feel secure.

๐Ÿ” Watch the BBQ: Keep alcohol, bones, and people food out of pawโ€™s reach!

Letโ€™s make sure itโ€™s a safe and happy 4th for everyone, furry friends included! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ•
