If you’ve always wanted to learn what International Latin is (think DWTS) or do a deep dive into it - here’s your chance!

What’s unique - the series is designed around the solo dancer ie, Solo Latin Dance

https://dedance.co/dance-classes

📆 Five 2-hour summer workshops cover the 5 International Latin Ballroom dances: cha cha, jive, rumba, paso doble and samba. Take a few or all five. Every 6 weeks through October.

While Latin ballroom is a partner dance, it has lots of solo choreography. Fun fact - it is often studied and practiced without a partner (lead and follow) as well as with a partner. Many (women especially) find it activating and the study of it empowering - there is very little about it that is passive or about ‘just’ following. The leads part is about shaping to lead. The patterns are straightforward - lots of geometry and structure, with room for expression.

What the workshops cover - Lots!
Come ready to learn. fundamentals, basic techniques, dance character, emotional attitude/story, dance anatomy basics, practice combo, music awareness, and a bit of history about how each style came about. Each class builds on the previous, but can be taken singly.

The first session is Saturday, May 23rd at 12pm.
By the end of the 5-part series, you’ll get:

1. New skills for self-expression and focus (expressiveness) for ANY kind of dance
2. Improved body awareness and body connectivity - Intro to techniques like Cuban motion, torso/arm activation, spiraling, heel/stiz bone activation.
3. Sets of Latin practice basics for your solo (or partnered) practice
4. Knowledge of what are the hard parts and easy parts about each dance you see on DWTS
5. Tools to improvise on the dancefloor with basics
