Whitworth Wind Symphony

Our first concert of the semester is just under 3 weeks away! We are so excited to present our 2026 “Wind Currents” concert, featuring local high school ensembles, the Medical Lake High School Wind Ensemble and the Ferris High School Wind Ensemble. This performance will be at the Fox Theater on Monday, March 16th at 7:30 pm. Admission is free for everyone! We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Wind Symphony piccolo Valerie Hanes!!! We are super proud of you!!!

Congratulations to physics major Valerie Hanes ’27, who earned the Best Poster Award at this year’s Murdock College Science Research Conference! Hanes’ award-winning poster, titled “Modeling Cell Motion in Time-Dependent Electric Fields,” showcased her impressive summer research conducted under the mentorship of Whitworth Engineering & Physics Department faculty members John Larkin and Jonathan Dawson.

Hanes’ work contributes to a larger, three-year research project funded by the Murdock Charitable Trust and led by Dawson that aims to develop a deeper, mechanistic understanding of how biological cells move in response to external electric fields. This recognition highlights not only Hanes' exceptional talent and dedication but also the cutting-edge research opportunities available to our students. At Whitworth, students can press into their curiosity through hands-on undergraduate research that bridges physics, engineering and biology.

Sonic energy in motion...in Colorado! Whitworth Wind Symphony conductor Richard Strauch will be conducting the Colorado All-State Concert Band at the University of Northern Colorado this week!
