One of the best parts of our work at Vexing Media is getting to travel for on-site video shoots and events, and last week’s trip to Marksville, Louisiana once again proved. ✈️

There’s nothing quite like meeting clients in their own communities, hearing stories firsthand, and capturing the energy of the place itself. And while we’re used to a lot of things in Spokane… spotting alligators in the hotel lobby isn’t usually one of them 🐊

When you pack your bags for a filming gig, you can usually count on three things:
1. Travel hiccups
2. Local food adventures
3. Plenty of face time with the client

1. Travel Hiccups
Our trip started strong—if by “strong” you mean “chaotic.” Getting from one small airport to another almost always means multiple layovers, and this was no exception. We left Spokane at the crack of dawn, hopped to Phoenix, then Dallas, then finally to Alexandria, Louisiana. (Yes, Louisiana has an Alexandria. News to us, too!)

Unfortunately, weather delays in Phoenix meant we missed our Dallas connection. The airline rebooked us—thankfully—but on a later flight. By the time we rolled into our hotel, it was after midnight local time. Eighteen-plus hours of travel right before a full filming day? Not ideal. But coffee is a magical thing! ☕️

2. Local Food Adventures
Central Louisiana is considered Cajun Country. How do we know? We asked the front desk clerk, whose French-sounding name felt like solid evidence. And the food? Exactly what you’d hope for: spicy seafood or fried everything. We went for seafood—catfish, grits, boiled crab—and washed it all down with plenty of sweet tea.

3. Client Time
The best part of the trip wasn’t the food or the scenery—it was the people. Our client’s team works remotely all over the country, so meeting them in person for the first time was a treat. In our line of work, those face-to-face moments are gold. They let us see not only what people are working on, but also why it matters to them. We came home with a deeper understanding of the project and a clear vision for turning these interviews into a storytelling video that will serve them well in the future.
