On this day in 1964, the Civil Rights Act became law.
This landmark legislation confronted systemic racism, segregation, and discrimination, moving our nation closer to the promise that every person deserves justice, peace, and dignity. Its passage was driven by courageous activists and leaders who refused to accept injustice and fought tirelessly for change.

This anniversary is not only a moment of reflection—it is a call to action. As civil rights protections face ongoing threats, we are reminded that the work is far from finished. It reminds us that progress is not guaranteed, and that the fight for justice must continue. The progress achieved through this landmark law must be defended and strengthened for future generations.

Our office will be closed on Friday, June 19th in recognition of Juneteenth. Operations will resume Monday, 6/22.

Juneteenth reminds us of the ongoing journey toward equity and justice. At YWCA Spokane, we strive every day to build a community where justice, freedom, and dignity for all are not aspirations, but realities.
