California Black Oak (Q. Kelloggii) is pictured here. We have two left at the nursery in #2 pots that are currently pushing some very pretty new growth. These may be small now, but will eventually make some very stately shade trees!
A big reason to plant West Coast oaks over the more commonly cultivated Eastern species is that many are wonderfully adapted to our Inland NW climate. California black oak prefers a climate characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, moist winters where 10-50 percent of the annual precipitation comes in the form of snowfall. That sounds a whole lot like Spokane to me!
