Holiday excitement or holiday overwhelm? For many kiddos, the season’s bright lights, loud gatherings, and change in routine can send their nervous systems into overdrive!

The truth is, this season is A LOT for developing brains to process:
-Bright lights everywhere
-Constant music & noise
-New environments
-Schedule changes
-Different foods
-Lots of physical touch
-Big emotions
-Social demands
-Late nights
-Sugar rushes

Remember: They’re not giving you a hard time, they’re HAVING a hard time! Their nervous system is simply saying “this is too much!”

Here are some practical ways to help your little one’s nervous system stay regulated during the holiday chaos:

1. Create Quiet Zones 🤫
-Designate a calm space at holiday gatherings
-Pack noise-canceling headphones
-Allow breaks from socializing

2. Maintain Some Routine ⏰
-Keep regular meal times when possible
-Stick to usual bedtime routines
-Schedule downtime between events

3. Prepare Their System 🧠
-Get adjusted to optimize nervous system function
-Talk through plans ahead of time
-Practice coping strategies before events
-Pack familiar comfort items

4.Watch for Early Signs of Overwhelm:
-Increased irritability
-Covering ears/eyes
-Seeking escape
-Physical tension
-Change in breathing
-Resistance to touch

Remember parents: A regulated nervous system can handle more input! This is why many families find regular chiropractic care so helpful during the holiday season - it helps keep their child’s nervous system balanced and better able to handle the extra stimulation. 🎅🏼
