RSV is Respiratory Syncytial Virus, a highly contagious virus and common cause of pneumonia in children, especially newborns to 5 years of age.

Studies have found that a large number of our older patients develop pneumonia secondary to RSV as well.

So a vaccine was developed to protect both populations. It is available for children under the age of 8 months, women who are between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, and patients ages 60 and older.

Talk to your P*P about whether they recommend the vaccine for you and/or your child.

It’s that time of year! So how do you know how much to give your child when you can’t contact a doctor at your clinic?

We dose medications for children based on their weight, specifically in kilograms.

Start with converting your child’s weight from pounds to kilograms: (Weight in pounds) divided by (2.2) = Weight in kilograms

Tylenol dosing: 15 mg per kilogram per dose, to be given every 4 hours as needed.

Ibuprofen dosing: 10 mg per kilogram per dose, to be given every 6-8 hours as needed.
