Welcome earthside Joshua! When the HazelTree team arrived Joshua’s mama was already well into labor, in the birth pool supported by her husband. Between contractions the two joked with the birth team. His mama labored beautifully, & Joshua was caught by his mama supported by his daddy & they did so well. Such a fun birth, & a great family!

Declan Theodore has a pretty special birth story. If you’re a birth worker, I'm sure you've guessed by where babe's feet are in this photo, but Declan was born breech! His parents pivoted from a planned home birth to WA hotel birth when little Declan was determined to stay breech.

His mama labored beautifully, & this sweet boy was welcomed into the world with the HazelTree team & the lovely Juniper Midwifery as witnesses. Such a great testament to as Declan’s birth was truly safe & textbook.

He is adored by his family, especially his older brother & it was such a joy to walk this journey alongside this wonderful family✨

The membrane sweep is done to encourage labor to come! Your provider GETS YOUR CONSENT before inserting a gloved finger into the cervix and separates the amniotic membranes from the uterus which- promotes prostaglandins!

Prostaglandins help ripen the cervix to dilate and thin so that baby can come through. This should only be done with mom and midwife comfort, usually on an overdue baby. What is a stretch and sweep? Same idea but we will pull the cervix at the same time to open it a bit more. It’s not always comfy but it’s much less intervention than some other measures. The key is consent.
