Spicewood Fire Rescue responded to assist Llano County with aerial recon of a brush fire. Fire Command 91 responded and arrived in the area and was able to launch our BRINC Drones Responder Drone, "Angel Wings 91". Once in the air we were able to quickly identify the location of the brush fire and the best access route to the fire. Sunrise Beach Fire Department Command was able to direct responding brush trucks to the located fire and begin extinguishment. Without this aerial resource it would have taken longer to locate and make access to the fire, saving precious minutes.

A rancher had set about a dozen burn piles off with insufficient means to control all of them at the same time. Several of the burn piles burned slightly outside of the intended burn area.

This triggered a response from numerous agencies both paid and volunteer.

Stealing some words from Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department-Texas earlier post, if you're going burn make sure you:
πŸ”₯ Start early in the day, when relative humidity is at its highest.
πŸ”₯ Ensure burn pile is clear of debris, at least 15-20 feet around. This includes grass, sticks, trees, etc.
πŸ”₯ Have water and shovels nearby. For larger burns, dozers or skid steers are very helpful.
πŸ”₯ Burn a small pile for easy control of flames, and add to it as you go.
πŸ”₯ Never start a fire with strong or gusty winds.
πŸ”₯ No night burning.
πŸ”₯ Never leave a fire unattended.

If you're going to light fireworks this 4th of July, please do not do it in or near dry grass. On bare dirt, rocks, or pavement is best. Have a water supply ready nearby. Or just avoid the risk and go to one of many fireworks shows such as at Krause Springs or in Marble Falls.
