Imagine escaping an animal trap by chewing off your own foot... only to surprise everyone by giving birth to six puppies just weeks later.

That is exactly what happened to Miss Polly.

When Polly arrived at South Salt Lake Animal Services last October, she was in rough shape. She had a severely mangled back foot, likely from an animal trap. Based on her injuries, it appeared she had chewed her own foot free in order to survive.

After the shelter treated her injuries, Polly came to All Paws Count and was placed in a wonderful foster home where we hoped she could finally rest and recover.

Then, just two weeks later, Polly shocked everyone.

She gave birth to six puppies.

Nobody knew she was pregnant.

As a first-time rescue mom who had already been through so much, Polly became very protective of her babies. To make sure everyone received the care they needed, Polly's puppies went to an amazing bottle-baby foster while Polly focused on healing. A few weeks later, when the puppies returned, Polly was overjoyed to see them again.

Over time, she learned that the people around her weren't a threat—we were there to help. Slowly but surely, she began to trust us with both herself and her babies.

After consulting with our veterinarians, we decided the healthiest option for Polly was to remove the remainder of her injured leg. Today, Polly is officially a tripod dog, and she handles it like an absolute champion.

Her journey hasn't always been easy. Polly struggled with protective behaviors in a couple of foster homes. After everything she'd been through, she formed strong bonds with her people and wanted to keep them safe.

But if you met Polly today, you might never guess where she started.

She now greets volunteers at the door with excitement. She loves meeting new people and has done well with men, women, children, and other dogs. Instead of barking at strangers, she runs up hoping for attention and pets.

And while all six of her puppies found homes months ago, Polly is still waiting.

Waiting for someone to see past the missing leg and recognize the incredible dog she has become.

Polly is smart, affectionate, and has amazing recall. She loves being off leash and checking in with her people. Sometimes it feels like she understands every word you're saying. She has overcome pain, fear, motherhood, surgery, and countless challenges—and somehow still chooses to trust and love.

After everything she's been through, we think it's finally Polly's turn.

Please help us find the forever home this amazing girl has been waiting for. ❤️🐾
