Bicycle Riding School

The New York Times and Laura Motley really got it right with their recent piece on how to teach kids to ride. It also applies to adults, of course. By the way, I really need another teacher here at the Bicycle Riding School.
Move Over, Training Wheels: There’s a Better Way to Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike The six bike experts we talked to all agree: The balance bike method is the best way to teach a kid to ride a bike.

I'm so happy to have a new teacher for my bike school, Gracie Berman-Reinhardt. She's a senior at Tufts and a fellow activist. I think she'll make a great addition to our faculty. She's part of my gradual retirement plan. Here's what she wrote on our website.
Gracie Berman-Reinhardt grew up navigating the streets of Boston by bike and is passionate about teaching others to get around the city on two wheels.
Part of what she loves about the bike school is the approach to easing people of all ages into bicycle riding and building people’s confidence, no matter how daunting it may feel at first for the new rider.
She hopes that with more bikers on greater Boston’s streets, the city can become more accessible for people of all walks of life, and can be built to connect people, rather than force them into cars.
When not at the Bicycle Riding School, Gracie spends time advocating for social justice at home and abroad, including for the end of the U.S.-led genocide in Palestine.

I really need another bike riding teacher! People are having to book way out in the future, especially if they need weekends. It's a really fun job and pays decent money. I will happily train the right person in our method that virtually guarantees success. If you are interested or can think of someone who might be, reach out to me at [email protected] or 617-776-6524.

The Somerville Bike Kitchen is a wonderful place where people can learn about their bikes and fix them. Check out their winter plans.

I will give a talk for the Somerville Bicycle Committee's monthly series at Aeronaut Brewery, this Wednesday, Dec 20 at 6pm. Aeronaut is at 14 Tyler St, tucked away behind Somerville Ave, not too far from Union Sq. I will show slides and talk about "Teaching People to Ride at the Bicycle Riding School - young, old, athletic and fearful." It should be fun.
