2025 Rogers Scholar Megan Smith of Knox County turned her passion for archery into an opportunity to inspire others by hosting an archery workshop for Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road, Troop 2792.

Partnering with a USA-certified archery coach and the coach and assistant coach of the Barbourville City School Archery Team, Megan helped participants learn archery safety, proper form, and the fundamental skills needed to earn their archery badge.

“Hosting this workshop meant more to me than simply teaching archery skills,” Megan said. “It gave me the chance to share something I love while helping young girls discover their own confidence. Watching them step up to the line – some nervous, some excited – and seeing their faces light up when they realized they could do it, is something I’ll always remember.”

As part of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program, all graduates are required to complete a community service project within one year of finishing the program.
