Four 15-ton rooftop units. One mission: get this facility cooling again. 💪
These four 15-ton commercial rooftop package units were vandalized beyond repair, making complete replacement the only practical solution.
Today our team is on site coordinating multiple crane lifts, setting new curb adapters, and installing all four replacement units. Once set, we’ll complete all electrical, gas, condensate, controls, startup, commissioning, and performance testing to ensure each system is operating exactly as designed.
Projects like this take planning, teamwork, and attention to detail—and we’re proud to deliver all three.
A big thank you to our customer for trusting All American Mechanical with this project.

Thirty years in the HVAC industry, and this was a first.
I’ve seen just about everything over the years:
* Sugar ants packed inside contactors.
* Lizards across high-voltage terminals.
* Capacitors taken out by insects.
* Frogs in disconnects.
* Wasp nests inside condenser cabinets.
But today was something I’ve never encountered before.
A customer complained that their thermostat display would randomly flicker, fade, and go completely blank, yet the air conditioner kept running.
After removing the thermostat, I found the culprit—a house centipede had made its way inside and became lodged across the Y and G terminals on the circuit board. It was literally creating an intermittent electrical path between the two low-voltage circuits until it finally burned itself up.
Once the remains were removed and the board was cleaned, the thermostat returned to normal operation.
This is a good reminder that sometimes the strangest HVAC problems have the simplest—and most unexpected—causes. Even after nearly 30 years in the trade, this job taught me something new.
That’s why diagnostics matter. Every symptom has a cause, and sometimes it’s one you never expect.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever found inside HVAC equipment?
🇺🇸 America 250 | June 30 – Louisiana Becomes the 18th State
Just nine years after the Louisiana Purchase, Louisiana reached another historic milestone.
On April 30, 1812, Louisiana officially became the 18th state in the Union—the first state created from the Louisiana Purchase.
Becoming a state was not the beginning of Louisiana’s story. It was the beginning of a new chapter in America’s story.
Louisiana brought with it a culture unlike anywhere else—rich food, music, faith, festivals, architecture, river commerce, coastal traditions, and a deep connection to family and community.
From the Mississippi River to the bayous, from New Orleans to the small towns and settlements across the state, Louisiana added something truly unique to the United States.
As we continue our America 250 series, we celebrate the day Louisiana officially joined the Union and became the 18th star on the American flag.
🇺🇸 1812 – Louisiana becomes American.

🛠️ What Most Homeowners Don’t Know About Their HVAC System’s Airflow
Many people assume that if their air conditioner is blowing cold air, everything is fine. But one of the most common (and often overlooked) issues we see in Southeast Louisiana homes is restricted airflow — especially on the return side.
Here’s a real-world example from a recent evaluation we performed in Slidell:
The home had a 4-ton outdoor unit paired with a 5-ton Carrier air handler. After running full diagnostic testing (including refrigerant performance, temperature split, humidity readings, and static pressure measurements on both supply and return sides), we found the system was mechanically sound on the refrigeration side. However, the Total External Static Pressure was elevated at 0.84”, with most of the restriction coming from the return air path and filter setup.
Why this matters:
High return-side restriction forces the blower motor to work harder, reduces the amount of air moving across the evaporator coil, increases energy consumption, and hurts the system’s ability to remove humidity. In our hot, humid climate, poor humidity control is often the real reason homes feel “clammy” or uncomfortable — even when the temperature seems okay.
Using the manufacturer’s official airflow performance tables for this specific air handler, we adjusted the ECM blower speed from Tap 3 to Tap 2. This brought the airflow into the proper range for the 4-ton condenser. The result? A solid 17°F temperature split and the home stabilizing at a comfortable 70°F with 52% relative humidity while it was still 81°F outside.
What we recommended:
• Upgrade the return filter opening to 20” × 36”. We often can’t go wider due to space constraints during remodeling, so we go taller instead. The increased height gives us significantly more filter face area with less airflow resistance, making the retrofit cleaner and more effective.
• Install a 20” × 36” × 5” MERV 11 media filter (deeper pleated design = much lower pressure drop while still providing excellent filtration)
• Keep the blower on the optimized Tap 2 setting
• Retest after the changes to confirm improvement
Key takeaways for homeowners:
• Static pressure and airflow are just as important as refrigerant charge. Many “not cooling well” or high-humidity issues are actually airflow problems.
• The size and quality of your return filter setup has a big impact on system performance, energy use, and comfort.
• ECM blower motors have multiple speed taps. The correct tap should be chosen based on your actual equipment match and the home’s needs — not just left on the highest setting.
• A full performance evaluation (static pressure testing, psychrometrics, manufacturer table references, etc.) can reveal opportunities that basic service calls often miss.
In many cases, targeted airflow improvements like this deliver better comfort and efficiency without needing expensive equipment replacement.
If your home struggles with humidity, uneven temperatures, high energy bills, or just doesn’t feel as comfortable as it should, the issue might not be what you think.
We’re happy to explain how your system is actually performing and what options make sense for your home.
