Style Lesson: Height Is an Illusion You Can Design
At 5’3.5” (yes… I’ve officially lost a half inch 😏), I’m even more intentional about how I build vertical lines into my outfits. Height isn’t about inches; it’s about proportion, continuity, and where the eye travels.
✨ What’s working here and why it matters:
✅ Monochrome magic: Wearing head-to-toe black creates one uninterrupted visual line. No stops, no breaks = instant length.
✅ High-waisted skirt: The higher the waistline, the longer the leg line appears. This is one of the most powerful illusion tools.
✅ Tights + shoe in the same color family: Black tights with black ankle boots extend the leg instead of chopping it off at the ankle.
✅ Cropped sweater, intentional length: The sweater ends higher on the body, which visually raises the waist and elongates everything below it.
✅ Vertical details: The button placket draws the eye up and down. Subtle, but effective.
✅ A little asymmetry in the stance: One leg forward, weight shifted. Posing matters more than people realize.
💡 The takeaway:
Style isn’t about hiding your height. It’s about owning it strategically. When you understand how the eye reads lines, color, and proportion, you can create presence, confidence, and yes… height.
