My father would’ve turned 91 today. He passed in 2004. We had a complicated relationship while I was growing up that continued on well into my 20s. As a parent now, I’m forced to reckon with those times quite often. The best memories of my dad, though, were the last few years of his life. We became much closer during that time: weekly dinners, fun chats, bonding like never before. I’d like to believe he started to realize that could’ve been the case much earlier in my life. He would’ve got a kick out of my career working in the fight game. Wish he was here to see a PFL show. Here’s an old pick from 1943 of him boxing in his yard. One of my favorites of him. Happy Birthday, dad.
Working on Between Rounds with is always a good time. Love talking with Dan during fight week about different techniques, matchups etc. I always learn a lot. We’ve recently been talking about sumo wrestlers and underhooks. Now I’m watching Asakoryu videos per Dan’s recommendation. Incredible athlete! While chatting with in Belfast, Dan had me come on so he could demonstrate. .sports captured the lesson. Fun times!
One of my favorite moments on fight is when gets rolling and hits his signature phrase: “It’s about to be an absolute banger!” before the main event. and always get hyped up. I happened to be by the cage and was able to capture them this time. Great energy all around.
