New for this month’s issue of “Corner Story: A New Kind of Heritage Home”
“They used to be places where you might grab a coke or a quart of milk. But in some residential pockets of North America, corner stores that have sat vacant are turning out to be prime reel estate for homeowners.
The shelves were still fully stocked when interior designer purchased the property and turned it into a refined, loft-like home.”

“Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet” new for NBC News
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.
Pictured is Jill Chamberlain, she works up to 80 hours a week but still isn’t able to cover her bills without money from plasma:
“I’m angry that I’m working this much, that I’m educated, that I’m articulate, that I have marketable skills, and that I’m reduced to selling my plasma,” said Jill Chamberlain, in Phoenix, who has gone from making $87,000 a year to $16.11 an hour after being laid off from her job overseeing the finances of a local business in 2024. “I was ashamed at first, but now I’m angry. This is not how things are supposed to be.”

“A star in the Hollywood Hills is shining again” Bel-Air CC new for
“If you scripted a movie centered around the quintessential Los Angeles golf club, that club would look a lot like Bel-Air. Winding through the mansion-dotted canyons of the Hollywood Hills, Bel-Air Country Club is a Tinseltown vision of Southern California golf with topography so steep it seems fictitious as golfers are guided hole to hole through tunnels, an elevator and the city’s most famous suspension bridge.”
2nd frame features the 12th hole famously known for its “Mae West” mounds, a design feature of two large, voluptuous mounds that resemble breasts.
3rd slide: In four places golfers are teleported from one Bel-Air quadrant to another through underground passageways, including the long subterranean tunnel leading to the elevator that delivers golfers up to the clubhouse terrace. The combination of tunnels, bridges and elevators make a round at Bel-Air one of the game’s unique voyages.
Ever wonder where the dimensions of a golf cart come from? The tunnels at were designed based on the width of a caddie carrying two golf bags, which, along with subsequent Cushman Company measurements, established the standard width for modern golf carts.
