Horses are large animals with the ability to grow a thick coat of hair during the cold seasons to help insulate their bodies. So why do they need shelters?
1. Although their coats are thick and warm, their hair is still prone to lift and will lose their insulation against cold wind. Even when there's low humidity, a cold breeze can cause a horse to shiver
2. Hooves are the life of an animal and often considered as the "second heart" of horses. Hoof health is detrimental to their overall health and can be prone to diseases such as laminitis, abscesses, thrush, white line disease, and many more. These diseases mostly come from fungal infections and rot which can be avoided by providing dry, bacterial free ground for them to stand on.
3. Along with cold winds, rain can also cause terrible coat issues by soaking into the skin and rotting. Most often called rain scald, or rain rot, this most often occurs to animals who spend long periods of time in wet conditions and around biting insects
4. Horses can also suffer from overheating and sunburn if left with little shade. Burns can be anywhere between a common rash to painful blisters and when erupted around the mouth and nose, simple tasks such as breathing and eating can be inhibited.
Above all, a well maintained, dependable shelter that is clean, draft and flood free can be the one thing standing between your horses health tipping or thriving against the elements. And when barns are not available or you'd like your horse out in pasture, it's much better to live at ease knowing your partner in crime is safe under cover when they feel it's time to get cozy.
That's what we provide🥰

The fundamentals of building shelters:
1. Find a good location that is flat and workable
2. Prepare your supplies by finding good quality lumber, gathering the right tools, etc...
3. Make a run to the store because you forgot something
4. Pick up snacks and coffee because it's now lunch time
5. Come back to the shop and forget what you were doing, start somewhere else
6. Go back to the store because you ran out of nails / screws
7. It's now 8pm and you only got 1 wall done...
🌱 All jokes aside, this is actually what some days look like. Most days, we surprise ourselves by busting out an entire project and then there are some where you forget how to use a measuring tape. Life is life🤷♀️ things happen and we're totally here for it😅
