Fatmata Binta Jalloh of the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School has won this years’ Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone Inter-Secondary School debate on the topic ‘respect for human rights as a pre-requisite for a politically tolerant and peaceful 2018 elections’.
The debate which was held at the Sierra Leone Library Board with five Secondary Schools participating is part of series of activities undertaken by HRCSL in commemorating the International Human Rights Day Celebration on December 10th, 2017. Fatmata Binta Jalloh came first by defeating Amos Claudius Gordon from the Prince of Wales who came second, Abubakar Marrah from Saint Edwards Secondary School came third and Kelfala Kamara of the Government Model Secondary School came fourth and Evelyn T. Ahorney from the Saint Joseph’s Secondary School coming fifth.
The Judges graded the contestants based on their expressions, appearances, mastery of the subject matter, composure and consistency.
Edmond Alpha from the National Electoral Commission, Emmanuel Satti from Amnesty International and Ibrahim Turay from Fourah Bay College human rights clinic served as judges.
The HRCSL will tomorrow Friday 8th, December 2017 continue with its activities to mark international human rights day with a panel discussion at the National Electoral Commission conference room.
HRCSL is partnering with the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS), the United Nations Country Team in Sierra Leone(UNCT), the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) to celebrate this years’ International Human Rights Day Celebration.

AWMS/AWOGA Thanksgiving Service
The service will take place on at 3:30 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior, 1700 Powder Mill Road, Silver Spring, MD 20903-1500. A reception will follow the service in the church’s social hall.
