Let’s talk about this reality deeper ⬇️
When we think about who is most vulnerable to homelessness, we don't always think about our elderly neighbors. But the reality is that older adults can be at serious risk. Once someone loses housing later in life, the consequences are devastating.
Declining mental health, medical debt, the loss of a spouse, fixed incomes that can't keep up with rising rents, these challenges can compound quickly and push older adults into housing insecurity before anyone sees it coming…
And the toll it takes is staggering😳
The average life expectancy of someone experiencing homelessness is 15 to 20 years lower than their housed counterparts. For older adults experiencing homelessness specifically, life expectancy drops to approximately 64 years for men and 69 years for women - well below the national average.
At Housing Unlimited, we believe that no one, regardless of age, should have to face their most vulnerable years without a place to call home. That is the work your support makes possible right here in Montgomery County🙌
