I was privileged to teach John Ferdinand's Smallsword from his 1788 The Sword's-Man at last weekend's 2025 American Smallsword Symposium held at the historic Carlyle House in Alexandria, VA. I cannot thank Patrick Bratton (Sala della Spada) and Christopher Treichel enough for the tremendous opportunity, and a huge 'Thank you!' to Kevin Rezac of Round Table Historical Fencing for two amazing demonstration bouts of Smallsword vs Broadsword. Thank you to all the participants, especially those who traveled significant distances to attend!

Broadsword Class is back for Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 3PM!
MacKenzie Broadsword and Maryland KDF are partnering to conduct Workshop-style group classes every other Saturday focusing on Scottish Martial Arts.
WHAT IS A WORKSHOP-STYLE CLASS?
The goal of a workshop-style class is to focus on concepts and weapons in easily digestible chunks, just like a workshop at (for instance) the Maryland KDF Autumnfecht event. As this class meets every other week, classes do not follow a linear lesson plan. Instead, each class uses select lessons from multiple sources to gain a better overall understanding of Highland Broadsword and associated weapons. This means that students can take classes periodically over the course of the year, jumping in and out without worrying about missing “building blocks'' from prior courses.
CLASS DETAILS: This week’s class will focus on shaking off any rust and looking at critical techniques including footwork (traverse and linear) and attack mechanics.

TIME:
3pm to 5:30pm
SESSION SCHEDULE:
3pm to 4pm - Instructor-led class
4pm to 5:30pm - Free fencing or Private Lessons.
REQUIREMENTS:
Attendees must be a member of the HEMA Alliance for insurance purposes!

NOTE: If you are a Maryland KdF student, you only need to pay for the floor fee ($15.00) for the Siena School. If you are NOT a member of Maryland KdF, you will need to sign up for the membership labeled "Visiting Membership" ($10.00) first before buying a ticket to the class. The MKDF floor fee covers the Group Class and the 90 minutes of free fencing after the class. If you are interested in private lessons after the Group Class please contact me directly and we will work out rates and schedules through MacKenzie Broadsword.

Attention! There will be no Broadsword class at the Siena School tomorrow, Saturday November 9, as I will be a member of the referee staff at the ARFL Longsword Open at Top Tier CrossFit in Columbia, MD! The tournament has one opening if you need to get some competition!

ARFL Longsword Open | Maryland KdF | TidyHQ The Atlantic Renaissance Fencing League is putting on its Longsword tournament, hosted and organized by Maryland KDF. This is a friendly Longsword tournament aimed primarily at HEMA fencers in the DC-Baltimore area.
