From Forrest Schaad: Since 1903, my family has been deeply rooted in Oregon’s farming heritage, beginning with a land grant near Newberg, Oregon. In 1953, my grandfather bought our current vineyard, originally cultivating a variety of crops including walnuts, cherries, and Italian prunes. In 1980, my father made the pivotal decision to plant vineyards, replacing black caps and securing 5 acres from his father. Witnessing the growing interest in Oregon Pinot Noir, our family has steadily expanded our vineyard over the years.
At Schaad Cellars, we aim to craft wines that are both lovely to drink but also cause one to think. We’re passionate about wine, and passion is reflected in every bottle we offer. Our approach is hands-off, allowing the true essence of our vineyard’s grapes to shine through in your glass. We strive for wines with an expressive mid-palate, displaying a characteristic earthiness accented by mineral notes. Balancing vibrant fruit flavors with refreshing acidity is a hallmark of our style and vineyard. There are a lot of wines that check all the boxes but have no soul, we strive to make delicious wine that over-delivers.
Furthermore, our commitment to sustainable farming practices is unwavering. All our vines are self-rooted and dry-farmed. Techniques such as mycorrhizal fungi, worm castings, biochar, and compost teas have been integral to our farming since 2009. Continuing our tradition, our end posts are still hand-split cedar sourced from the Coastal Ranges where our family has camped for over 50 years. In 2014, we embraced a no-till approach, further enhancing the health of our vineyards. Keeping the land and vines healthy is the key to great wines.” ~ Forrest, Schaad Cellars

Santa Baby…🎵 a couple bottles under the tree,
for me 🎄
On a teeny parcel of land high in the rugged hills of the York Mountain AVA we find a 7.5 acre farm that grows bushvine own-rooted Grenache, Gracianco, Syrah & Clairette Blanche alongside vegetables and grazing animals. Anthony, Hillary and their family live here and call it “The Royal Nonesuch Farm”, a reference to the great “tragedy” of Huckleberry Finn
and a steady reminder not to take themselves too seriously.
