Visit our wonderful neighbor Ridgecrest Books next week to buy books in honor of Banned Books Week, and help raise money for our Library!

Banned Books Week is an annual event sharing the value of free and open access to information. It brings together the entire book community, librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers in support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas.

You may be surprised at the books that have been challenged or banned recently and in the past. Visit Ridgecrest Books next week to buy or order these books and celebrate the freedom to read!

There are so many good nonfiction books out there for K-5 students! Here are a few we have read together recently. Families, ask your students about what they learned!

"The Floating Field: How a Group of Thai Boys Built Their Own Soccer Field" which was inspiring and taught us about solving problems.

"Claude: The True Story of a White Alligator" is about an albino alligator who lives at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco: https://www.calacademy.org/exhibits/the-swamp

We also read "Six Dots" about Louis Braille and his invention of the Braille alphabet (4th and 5th grades), and examined some magazines in Braille and practiced writing in Braille.
