Galatians 6:2 NIV

I love this verse! There is a lot of meaning packed into a few words. The Apostle Paul is writing to a church in Galatia, with words to guide them in how to treat other believers and the world at large. When we live out Paul's statement here, "carrying other's burdens", we are living up to Christ's teaching of loving others as yourself. God created us to be in communion with eachother, to help one another without looking for something in return. As Christians we are supposed to be set apart from the world, and helping others, when the weight of the world may be crushing them, is a way that we set ourselves apart from this world. Do you know someone who needs help? Helping with someone's burdens doesn't necessarily mean in a financial or material sense. It could be just showing up, sitting in silence with them, holding their hand, or just letting them vent. Sometimes the most powerful gifts are the ones given in silence by just being there. Who can you help today?

(2) Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Proverbs 18:21 NIV‬

"Look into the eyes of the broken hearted
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope
You speak love, you speak
You speak life,"
Kevin Michael McKeehan (TobyMac)

Above is the chorus to the song "Speak Life" by TobyMac. I would like to think that our verse from Proverbs 18 below helped in the writing of this song, as to me they seem to go hand in hand. I've sent this verse out before, but it's such a good lesson for all of us. I'll be the 1st to admit that sometimes the filter between my brain and mouth doesn't always function properly, and I say things that I regret. Sometimes it can seem impossible to tame our tongues. Jesus says this in ‭Luke 6:45 "A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."
How do we get a handle on this? 1st thing we need to do is admit we have a heart issue, and that we need God to help us with that. We also need to be persistent at wanting to change that kind of behavior, if we don't care, nothing will change. 1 thing I'd like to leave all of us with is this, the one nice word or gesture to someone else could have an avalanche effect of love and joy into people's lives who may desperately need it. That person might just be you!

(21) The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
