Kent residents told to evacuate after rising flood waters

Residents in Kent are evacuating after an ice dam in the Housatonic River impedes flow.

State Representative Brian M. Ohler said a massive ice jam is preventing the Housatonic River from flowing to its original source causing the water to swell and rise.

Ohler said Route 7 is closed in both directions approximately a half mile south of Kent.

Multiple units are staging to prepare and assist residents at the Kent Fire House.
