New student Harley! We are working on all the basics for setting a great foundation for life.

He did fantastic.

Recall, focus, leave it, polite greetings as well.

An important question to ask yourself.

When does your dog get to be a dog?

There are lots of enrichment options out there...but ask any dog out there what would they actually choose?

If they could tell you....it would be out in a field exploring, sniffing, running.

Now, let me preface this by saying....there needs to be expectations to freedom.

For example, I teach clients we need to have a time and place for "heel" and "free".

We can't walk our dog in a busy neighborhood on a 50ft line.

There are times where "heel" is important. Tight spaces, tight trails, passing others.

But if a dog doesnt get to have a "free", frustration builds.

In comes the longline. To me it's one of my absolute favorite pieces of equipment. I've used them for a lifetime.

Your dog gets more freedom but....insert the bunny we saw in this field tonight....poof your dog becomes a hunter. Who could blame them? Its DNA...instinct...chase...hunt...

The longline is there in case of....bunny, coyote, bird...person, other dog.

Ayla did so well with her recall and "leave it" for the bunny tonight! Perfect example of using the longline.
