Do you know your ABC’s regarding skin cancer?

Sunburns AND having a tan is a sign that the DNA in your skin cells has been damaged by too much UV radiation from the sun. Even after your sunburn heals or your tan fades, some cells with damaged DNA can be left behind.
Over time, these damaged cells can multiply and develop into skin cancer.
The more sunburns you get, the greater your risk. For example, ONE blistering sunburn during childhood or adolescence can nearly DOUBLE your lifetime risk of developing melanoma.
A study from the Journal of the American Association for Cancer Research found that having five blistering sunburns before age 20 can increase your risk of melanoma by 80%
