Adams House is one of twelve residential houses at Harvard University, built from 1893 to 1902 and named after U.S. President and Harvard alumnus John Adams. Adams is considered one of the most historic residential houses on campus, with an architectural legacy spanning centuries.

As part of an extensive renovation project for Adams House, Grand Light restored and fabricated a wide variety of interior and exterior light fixtures.

Many candelabra wall sconces were restored for various locations, each fixture cleaned and treated to preserve the original black finish, then lacquered to protect them for the foreseeable future. Several custom replicas of these sconces were produced to seamlessly accompany the restored originals. Among the standout custom fixtures our team fabricated were multiple massive 47-foot stairwell chandeliers spanning four flights of stairs. Each was fabricated from raw steel and completed in a Quaker Bronze finish.

Adams House also features many unique, beautifully crafted wooden fixtures, including a stunning red painted chandeliers and a variety of face-carved ceiling pendants. More so than metal fixtures, wooden luminaires need to be very delicately cleaned before applying a new finish/paint to avoid damaging the artistry or structural integrity.

Grand Light is proud to have participated in this award-winning renovation project and contributed to the preservation of Harvard's rich history.

Grand Light recently worked with Wellesley College to design and fabricate custom light fixtures for the Clapp Library on campus. We manufactured multiple custom 24-light chandeliers that serve as striking focal points within the renovated spaces.

The chandelier designs were developed utilizing basic concept mock-ups provided by the college, a series of 2D line drawings and 3D models using our computer-aided design capabilities. After the designs were approved, we moved into the fabrication stages. Each fixture was manufactured in steel, surface prepared and coated with primer, and completed with a metallic champagne finish. Once wired, the 24 sockets were fitted with screw-in LED bulbs for enhanced efficiency, illumination quality, and dimmability.

Now installed, these custom chandeliers bring unique character and enhanced lighting to the renovated rooms of the stunning Clapp Library.
