From the Archives: Shaping the Skyline with Fifth Avenue Place
Since its completion in late 1987, Fifth Avenue Place has held an important place in Pittsburgh’s architectural history. Rising 31 stories, the tower is instantly recognizable by its light-beige polished granite, cool green reflective glass, and the striking 80-foot illuminated cap that defines the city's night skyline.
Beyond its visual impact, the building transformed downtown functionality by introducing a vibrant, three-story landscaped retail atrium and food court, creating a seamless connection to the surrounding retail district.
This is a proud legacy project from our firm's history (designed by WTW Architects, now AE Works). We collaborated with The Stubbins Associates to bring this vision to life.
Utilizing an efficient, "fast-track" phased construction approach starting in 1985, the team delivered a high-quality, lasting facility that remains a hub for corporate operations and retail activities.
Next time you look up at the downtown skyline, you're looking at a piece of our history and Pittsburgh's!

From the Road: AE Workers were in Fort Wayne, Indiana last week and discovered this door to nowhere.
What is the purpose of this door? What were the designers thinking? It really left us guessing.
