Now that Pride Month is over, I'm reflecting on the many people who fought for the right to live openly, love who they love, and just exist without fear. Those rights were never handed to them. They had to be won through years and years of persistence and advocacy.

As we approach America's 250th birthday, it's important to remember that our country was founded on the ideals of freedom and personal liberty. Those values belong to everyone!

Today I met Ricardo when I knocked on his door and he immediately invited me in for some homemade empanadas!

Ricardo is a retired UW professor of informational technology and migration. He now writes YA novels about teens fighting book bans through time travel! I can’t wait to read!

One of the things we talked about was that we cannot strive to get things back to “normal” because that’s what got us here in the first place. We have to be open to new ideas, new opportunities, and pathing a new way forward.

My time at the doors has been incredibly meaningful. In addition to my chat with Ricardo, in the past few days alone I’ve picked cherries with a woman in her orchard, drank wine with some folks during their RuPaul night, and showed an 80-year-old how to use my power scooter! 🛴

I love our communities in the 24th!
