At Grandma’s Table, everything begins on a cold morning.

Before the sun ever thought about rising, Grandma was already awake. She made herself a cup of strong coffee, then turned her attention to what mattered most—a big thermos of her famous hot chocolate. Not just for us grandkids, but for anyone who might need a little warmth that morning.

Most days, our parents were already at work, so we were dropped off at Grandma’s to catch the bus. Her house became the gathering place... the safe place and where cold hands were warmed and sleepy kids felt cared for before the day began.
She never made just enough.

Grandma always grabbed extra cups, because she knew. Word traveled fast down that old country road. On the coldest mornings, kids from that old country gravel road would beg their parents to drop them off early or start walking long before the bus arrived just to be there. Everyone knew if you showed up early, Grandma would have hot chocolate waiting.

We were the first stop on the route. Even our bus driver, Mrs. Moreno, would pull up a little early. She’d park that old the bus on the side of the gravel road, step down, and warm her hands around a cup while laughter and steam filled the cold air. The bus heater barely worked back then, but it didn’t matter. Grandma’s hot chocolate did the job better.

Standing there with a smile, she handed out cups like they were treasures and sent us off with the same words every morning:
“I love you all. Make today amazingly awesome.”
