đ GSPSSâ MDP Triple Crown Kicks Off Wednesday At Seekonk Speedway Alongside NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour
By Jeff Brown, for Granite State Pro Stock Series
WALPOLE, N.H. â The Granite State Pro Stock Series presented by Hudson International Speedway has visited three different states in the seasonâs first three events. Wednesday evening, the GSPSS goes four-for-four with a long-awaited return to Seekonk Speedway.
Wednesdayâs feature event fittingly launches the MDP Motorsports Promotions Triple Crown at the renowned âCement Palaceâ on Massachusettsâ South Coast, only minutes from the Rhode Island state line.
An extra $5,000 in prize money will be doled out to the top five drivers in points scored at Seekonk, Claremont Motorsports Park and Monadnock Speedway, all three races run in conjunction with the ground-pounding NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
The chase for the crown starts at the âAction Track of the East,â the third-mile theater-in-the-round that rolled out the red carpet to the GSPSS teams in 2017 and 2019. Seekonk all-star David Darling, who recently celebrated his 100th feature win at his hometown track, and Angelo Belsito picked up victories in the GSPSSâ last two Seekonk outings.
Darling and Belsito will be back Wednesday to defend their respective victories, but not without company. Eddie âThe Outlawâ MacDonald has yet to win at Seekonk, but the Bay State veteran has finished no worse than ninth at the track since 2017, making Wednesdayâs showdown a matter of unfinished business.
Former Seekonk Pro Stock champion Dylan Estrella finished third in GSPSS points in 2022 but came up short of the winnerâs circle. Estrella will try to lock down his first career touring win as he returns to the series for the first time since his rookie year.
Following Estrellaâs lead are a cadre of Seekonk alumni: Bobby Pelland, Kevin Casper, Mike Mitchell, and Kevin Folan have hundreds of laps around Seekonk, while rising stars Jacob âRowdyâ Burns and Jaden Hamilton hope to break through in their first GSPSS starts.
Series veteran Cory Casagrande has not raced at Seekonk since 2018, but looks to make his first event since starting the season with a hard crash at Stafford Motor Speedway. Joey Polewarczyk, who owns a pair of Late Model touring wins in 2007 and 2023, is also looking to right the ship after two tough outings in the last two races.
Meanwhile, the GSPSS title challengers will be watching the big picture while trying to score their own big win under the lights. Season-opener winner Jeremy Sorel has opened up a big advantage in the points over rookie Matt Beers, while Evan Beaulieu continues to climb back up the standings after an early exit at Stafford. Tied for fifth are Maineâs Jamie Wright and Alex Quarterley, Sorelâs teammate from western Massachusetts. Bad luck bit Casey Call two weekends ago at Speedway Presented by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, but the Gilmanton, N.H. resident has been buoyed by his speed this season.
Still trying to break out this year are Joe Kendall and Dan Winter, while Tom Carey III and Connor McDougal are trying to shake off the challenges of the young season.
Wednesday night marks the first racing of the Independence Day holiday weekend, and fast cars and door-to-door action are a stellar way to open the 250th anniversary of Americaâs birth!
Seekonk Speedway welcomes back the Granite State Pro Stock Series presented by Hudson International Speedway, as part of Wednesdayâs Midweek Madness featuring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tourâs Firecracker 150 presented by Bethesda Leadership Group. The GSPSS teams will face their own 100-lap battle at the âAction Track of the East,â with the Nick Lascuola Racing Summer Showdown for Seekonkâs Legends rounding out a thrilling weeknight card. Grandstand gates open at 4:30pm with racing slated to start at 6pm.
