Thursday marked the 81st anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima. In 36 days 5,931 Marines lost their life on the island. While stationed on Okinawa, Brandon was chosen to visit the island. He mentioned to me that on his visit to the island he was able to hike Mt. Suribachi and sleep on the black sands of the Iwo Jima beach. He told me he was so humbled looking down at the beach from Mt. Suribachi as well as standing on the beach where so many Marines lost their life.
