Join us for a free, three-part online community meeting series focused on the Atascadero–Green Valley Watershed.
Local experts will share updates on ongoing projects, studies, and conservation work happening right here in our watershed.
Our first session is December 8 at 6:00 PM and will highlight Atascadero Creek, including a watershed overview, planning updates, wetland study findings, and information about funding available for rainwater catchment design.

Experience Monte Rio Transhumance!
Come walk with us as we guide goats through the heart of Monte Rio, moving them from one grazing area to the next!

What is a Transhumance?
Transhumance is the seasonal movement of livestock from one grazing ground to another. Together, we’ll walk across the Monte Rio Bridge with the goats, starting at the Christmas Tree lot at the top of River Blvd. No experience needed—we’ll guide you through the process. We’ll finish back at the Park District with a short talk about grazing animals and wildfire resilience.

¿Qué es la trashumancia?
La trashumancia es el movimiento estacional del ganado de un terreno de pastoreo a otro. Juntos cruzaremos el Puente de Monte Rio con las cabras, comenzando en el lote de árboles de Navidad en la parte alta de River Blvd. No se necesita experiencia—te guiaremos durante todo el recorrido. Terminaremos de regreso en las oficinas del Distrito de Parques con una breve charla sobre el pastoreo de animales y la resiliencia frente a incendios forestales.
