Do you hear it? 🐸 🗣️
The staccato chirp of the coquí frog and the layered, complex call of the wood thrush make the nocturnal forest come alive. 🌲
That's the inspiration behind Amanda Harberg's Impulsive Nature — and this Tuesday, our own Bassoon & Contrabassoon Kipras Mazeika brings it to life.
"I imagine the piece to take place in the forest at night, as the nocturnal animals are becoming active and the coquí frogs ascend into the treetops," says Kipras. "The horn and bassoon trade bird and frog calls with one another — in constant conversation."
The program also features Eric Ewazen's Trio for Bassoon, Horn and Piano — filled with, as Kipras describes it, "unexpected, beautiful harmonies" — before the evening closes with Brahms' lush String Quartet No. 2 in A minor.
