Danaca Design
We ran a mini competition in the gallery, no bets were involved but that was the idea. Anyhow, we have a winner in the, “Who Will Win?” Alex G will receive a 2026 Battle of the Rings show catalog on us!
As a side note “Sasamba” by our new Champion did receive the most bets among those who participated with, “Inner Compass” by following closely behind so I guess our customers know how to pick them!
Not far behind was, “Sweet Commotion” by and “PHI” by .rox so they should fell pretty darn good being among the gain the gallery!
Champion! Congratulations!!
Kris Carlos | Sasamba
Materials: Sterling Silver, brass, copper
Artist Statement: “Sasamba” is the Filipino word for Praying Mantis. This was part of a micro series of insect related pieces that was inspired by a beetle flying in my room. I wanted to create something very whimsical, a take on cabinet of curiosities, fairies, and a play on puppetry.
Artist Bio: Kris Carlos (b. 1985, Manila) started her smithing journey in 2018 when she took a basic silversmithing class at The Studio 925 in Manila where she was later asked to be an apprentice for the studio, and eventually became an instructor. Kris is known for combining her sculptures with jewelry and like to experiment with painting and coloring metal. In 2023, to further her smithing skills, she took a short course in chasing and repousse in Aoyama School of Jewellery in Tokyo, Japan.

Lena Echelle | Tephrocactus joya
Materials: Goatskin, silk, sterling silver, yerba mate dye, acrylic paint, soap, acrylic resin
Artist Statement: Tephrocactus, or paper spine cactus, is a native genus of cactus in the deserts of Northwestern Argentina. In Argentina, “joya” does not only mean jewel but also great, beautiful, awesome, precious in general — without any necessary reference to monetary value. This fantasy genus and species of ring suggests that wild plants and places might be considered the greatest “joya” of all.
Artist Bio: Originally a jeweler/metalsmith from the US, I moved to the mountains of La Rioja, Argentina, from Dallas, Texas, in 2009. The Northwestern region of Argentina is extensively mined for precious metals, but I was surprised to discover it was impossible to acquire them without travelling across the country to Buenos Aires. Eventually, I fell in love with the beauty of the hardy native plants and wide-open landscapes and began to work primarily with locally sourced, upcycled materials.
