On this day, June 19th, 1865, enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth represents a momentous step towards equality and justice, and reminds us of the continued struggle for racial justice and the ongoing legacy of slavery in our country. Let's take this day to honor and celebrate Black culture, history, and achievements, and to continue the fight for a more just and equitable society for all.
