July is National Parks and Recreation Month, a time to celebrate the parks, trails, and public spaces that help make our communities healthier, more connected, and more vibrant.
Access to parks and open spaces isn't just about recreation. These places provide opportunities to exercise, spend time with family and friends, connect with nature, and build community.
Whether it's a morning walk, an afternoon at the playground, or gathering with neighbors at a local park, these shared spaces play an important role in our well-being.
At Bellwether Housing, we know that creating affordable housing is about more than building homes. It's about helping residents thrive in communities with access to the resources and amenities that support a high quality of life, including parks, trails, and public spaces.
This month, we celebrate the parks and recreation spaces that bring people together and help make our neighborhoods feel like home.
What's your favorite park or outdoor space in the Seattle area?

Housing is about more than having a place to live. It's also about access to opportunity.
When people can afford to live near where they work, they spend less time commuting and less money on transportation. That means more time with family, more flexibility for childcare, and more resources for essentials like food, healthcare, and education.
In many communities, rising housing costs are pushing workers farther from their jobs, leading to longer commutes and higher transportation expenses. For households already stretching their budgets, those costs can add up quickly.
Affordable housing near jobs, schools, and transit helps create pathways to economic mobility. It connects people to employment opportunities, supports local businesses, and helps communities thrive.
That's why Bellwether Housing is committed to creating affordable homes in locations that keep residents connected to the places and opportunities that matter most.
Because where you live shouldn't determine how far you can go.

Mark your calendar for Bellwether Housing's annual Closer to Home Luncheon on Thursday, October 8th!
This inspiring event brings together community leaders, housing advocates, and supporters who believe everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable home. This year’s theme, Welcome Home, is an invitation to come in, gather in community, and celebrate the people, places, and possibilities that make us feel at home. We’re honored to welcome economist Raj Chetty, whose groundbreaking research on economic opportunity and social mobility has shaped national conversations about housing, neighborhoods, and pathways to success.
Join us as we celebrate the impact of affordable homes and invest in a future where people of all incomes can access the opportunities available in our region and contribute to building a stronger community for everyone.
We hope you'll save the date and plan to join us.

Check out our super cute Pride float this year!
Thanks to our Community Relations Team and all of our volunteer painters for helping put it all together.
We had a fabulous day marching and rolling through downtown Seattle with all of the other participants and our partners at PCL who supplied the truck and trailer.
And extra special thanks to our shy Seattle sun. You came out just in time!

Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.
Housing equity is deeply connected to racial equity. Historic and systemic barriers have limited access to safe, stable housing for many Black communities — impacts that are still felt today.
At Bellwether Housing, we remain committed to advancing inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Today we reflect, learn, and continue the work toward a more equitable future.
We were proud to sponsor the Juneteenth Block Party at the Rainier Beach Community Center! It was an amazing event. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our both and chatted with us.
Construction at Prisma continues to move forward, and we’re excited to share our latest aerial update from our partners at Walsh Construction.
Thanks to monthly drone footage, we can watch this future community take shape from a unique perspective. With each update, the progress becomes more visible as Prisma rises from the ground up.
When complete, Prisma will provide 328 affordable homes in Redmond, just steps from the Overlake Light Rail Station, creating greater access to housing, transit, and opportunity.
We’re grateful to everyone helping bring this vision to life and look forward to sharing more milestones as construction continues throughout the summer.
