Next weekend, September 5â7, we will be exactly where we want to be â the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. Nothing else compares: salt and wood, song and dance, 300 boats, 100+ presentations, demos, films, a Festival-wide sail by and more. Itâs the place where we gather to celebrate our love for the sea.
The Festival crew is still looking for volunteers across a dozen different jobs. If youâre into soaking up presentations, jump on the A/V team. If youâd rather be moving around, the grounds crew is a great fit.
Sign-ups at woodenboat.org/volunteer â maybe weâll see you there.

We had the joy of welcoming our dear friend to Seattle and decided to do what we love mostâgather with intention.
We booked a South American baking class at in Ballard, led by chef Pame Arriagada . The Pantry is known for its deep-dive cooking classes that center traditional food crafts, storytelling, and communityâand it did not disappoint.
Together we immersed ourselves in Chilean-style baking and made:
đŞ Alfajores de Maicena â delicate cornstarch sandwich cookies.
đ° Brazo de Reina Tres Leches con Lucuma y Manjar â a stunning sponge roll layered with tres leches, Lucuma (Andean fruit) dulce de leche, and Italian meringue.
đ Trenza con Pastelera y Membrillo â our fave! A braided loaf filled with pastry cream and quince paste (swoon).
To end our time together with our new table friends, we toasted with some bubbly and bright, beautiful charcuterie and then walked away full of joy, sugar, and gratitude.
At From Moss to Stone, we believe in the kind of hospitality that nourishes connection. The Pantry embodies that spiritâwhere every detail, from the aprons & name tags, to the pastry cream, feels like a love letter to gathering well.
If youâre dreaming up a moment worth celebrating, weâd be honored to help bring it to life here. Because food made with care, shared at the table, is one of the sweetest ways we know to say welcome.

Kate & Joelâs wedding in Port Townsend still makes my heart glow. These twoâclose friends from my Northwest Maritime crewâthrew a party that was 100% powered by love and community.
Family jumped in on A/V, friends handled catering, added to the decor, DJâd the playlist, shucked oysters, and someone even built a tiny wooden rowboat into their wedding cake. I mean, come on.
It was the kind of weekend where everyone pitched in because we wanted toâand it made the whole thing feel so personal and real.
Also: somehow there are photos of me mid-bustle-fix and boutonnière-fussing, which feels extremely on brand đ
Huge love to Kate & Joel. You two did it right. đ

After four years of being in my care, we lost my mom this year to an aggressive form of endometrial cancer. In her spirit, we chose a celebration of life over a traditional funeralâsomething colorful, meaningful, and true to who she was.
It was an intimate gathering of the many chapters of her communityâfamily, friends, coworkers, neighborsâall in one space to honor her life.
There were so many details of her warm, adventerous spirit that wrapped around you. She was passionate about palm trees and her favorite flowersâBird of Paradiseâwere paired with her beloved succulents in vibrant glass centerpieces, along with quotes from her favorite musicians. She was a lifelong pescatarian and fisher in Baja, so we honored her with fish tacos and named the bar area Lindaâs Lagoon with her signature drinks. We created an ofrendaâa Mexican altar honoring those whoâve passedâfilled with photos of the people and animals now welcome her home.
Guests wrote messages on white river rocks, which my fiancĂŠ and I will someday place in our garden as a way to carry her memory with us. We shared stories, laughed, cried, and embraced. It meant so much to me hear about my mother through otherâs eyes.
This season has reminded me how grief and love walk side by side. That even in loss, celebration matters. And that our time with those we love is more sacred than we know.

Arica & Jamesâ wedding will always hold a special place in my heart.
I had the joy of being fully present with themâwalking through their first dance choreography, adjusting those pesky boutonnieres, herding the wedding party, and stepping in as their hype girl when it mattered most.
Like many couples, they just needed space to breathe. So I carved out 15 quiet minutes after the ceremonyâjust for the two of themâto eat, rest their smiling cheeks, and take it all in.
Arica later shared:
âYou were at the helmâI could focus on being a bride and we could simply be present⌠You helped us create an unforgettable first dance, calmly handled a hiccup with our videographer, and even made space for us to breathe. That moment of stillness amidst the whirlwind was everything.â
This is the heart of what we do: creating space for moments that donât just happenâbut are held.

Hi, Iâm Angela HewitsonâPrincipal Wedding & Event Coordinator at From Moss to Stone.
For the past 20 years, Iâve been part of the production side of weddings and eventsâworking as a lead coordinator, planner, designer, venue host, legal witness, bartender, choreographer, server, and festival organizer (sometimes all in one weekend).
Iâve managed complex family dynamics, handled last-minute pivots, and helped shape unforgettable ceremonies in everything from mountaintop meadows to candlelit halls.
As a bi-cultural English and Mexican American woman, I understand both traditional elegance and vibrant, joyful celebration. Whether your vision is glam in the woods or a garden party with ancestral flair, I help bring intention, flow, and calm to the day youâve been dreaming of.
I believe coordination is about softening the edges of chaos, so you can be fully present in the moments that matter most.
