Ants bury their dead as a colony survival mechanism. Dead ants release a chemical called oleic acid as they decompose, which acts as a biological alarm signal triggering worker ants to remove the body from the nest immediately. This behavior protects the living colony from disease, fungi, and parasites that a rotting body would spread.

Some caterpillars don't run from predators, they bleed on them. It's called reflex bleeding, and for burnet moth caterpillars, those droplets release hydrogen cyanide. An ant tastes it once and never comes back.
