The last song

Photos from Free Rein Music Project's post 07/21/2026

I suffer from Focal Dystonia and can appreciate why Kieth Emerson put a shotgun to his head but wish he didn't because it broke my heart. My hands are milquetoast from playing riffs like him on guitar and keyboards for decades and without AI music my musical life would die and so would I. My last gig I had to soak my hands in ice between songs. I finally had to tell my band mates I couldn't play anymore and were getting ready to promote our CD and lots of future gigs would be coming our way.

My music is free to listen to and if you like something you can download for a dollar to help out a disabled musician. The controversy about AI music is kind of sad when there is a story behind every artist that uses it. AI and music creation has been around for decades and now it's crescendoing.

Keith Emerson, the legendary co-founder and keyboardist of the progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), died by su***de on March 10, 2016, at his home in Santa Monica, California. His tragic death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, largely driven by severe depression, anxiety, and the debilitating physical effects of a neurological condition known as focal dystonia. Here are the specific details regarding his condition and the circumstances of his passing:The Impact of Focal Dystonia The Condition: Focal dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions, cramping, and nerve damage. For Emerson, it primarily affected the fingers on his right hand.Career Threat: As one of rock's most technically skilled and virtuosic keyboardists, the loss of control and precision in his hands felt like losing his voice. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and treatments over the years, his condition continued to worsen.Depression and Anxiety Performance Anxiety: Emerson was a perfectionist who held himself to incredibly high standards. According to his long-time partner, Mari Kawaguchi, he became deeply depressed and tormented by the fear that he would disappoint his fans at upcoming concerts.Online Criticism: In his later years, Emerson read negative comments online from fans criticizing his live performances, which deeply hurt the sensitive musician. He was planning to retire following his upcoming tour in Japan but was terrified of how the shows would go.Coroner's Report: The Los Angeles County coroner officially ruled his death a su***de, noting that he also suffered from a heart condition and depression that was exacerbated by alcohol.Emerson's passing shook the music world, but his legacy as an absolute pioneer of the synthesizer and progressive rock endures.

Say Goodbye

Another rough song sketch recording from over a couple decades ago.

Just messing around with AI video creation. Found this recording from 40 years ago noodling out a guitar solo.

We shall overcome

Another song sketch from my archives. This was about 25 years ago after building Free Rein Studio in Lynnwood WA. I built my First DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to record and produce music. It was a very exciting time for musicians that wanted to record and produce their own music.

Holy Water

Another song sketch from 30 years ago that was recorded on an 8 track cassette synced with SMPTE time code to play back midi sequencer modules.

I have several dozen song sketches from my archives that will be fun to bring back to life with an AI video.

Play it for me

Another old recording of a song sketch I composed and produced almost 30 years ago. Just having fun bringing the song back to life with an AI video. 😎

Pop City

Recording of a song I composed and produced 30 years ago on an 8 track cassette and a SMPTE time code on track 8 for midi. It's a bubblegum pop song sketch while I taught myself how to record and use midi. 4 different guitar tracks. Thought it would be fun to bring the song back to life with an AI video.
