Watching Bella tandem nurse feels like witnessing a superpower. As I gently wean my third child, I’m moving through a tender, sacred transition. Feeding our children from our own bodies—loving them with our whole selves—is a quiet act of resistance, of life, of devotion.

As a mother and a basic human being — seeing children starving in Ga.za, families at the Khmer-Thai border being bombed and all the other atrocities happening in Sudan, Congo, Iran and at our doorstep.. It’s heavy, and I feel it. But I’m also reminded that being human means holding the entire experience and that’s rough. So it’s my dharma to create these tender spaces for reclamation.

A modern Khmer woman, Cella, is adorned in a Cambodian traditional skirt, jewelry, as well as her tattoos. She is the contemporary apsara, a Southeast Asian celestial being who guards the sacred temples. Her tattoos are a juxtaposition representing punk culture with traditional Khmer culture.
