On June 28, 1969, LGBTQ+ patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back against a police raid, refusing to quietly accept the discrimination and violence they faced.
The days and weeks that followed brought protests, vigils, organizing efforts, and a renewed determination to fight for equality. For many, Stonewall marked a turning point—one that transformed frustration into action and helped launch the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Today, we remember the courage of those who gathered in the streets that summer and the legacy they left for future generations.
