Take our pledge to be a bird-friendly beachgoer this summer by giving coastal birds the space they need to nest, rest, and feed. Here are some easy ways to be good shorebird stewards:
✅Give birds plenty of space. Keep your distance from roped-off areas and avoid walking through spaces where you see birds feeding, resting, or nesting—walk around them instead.
✅Leash your dog. All dogs are good dogs, but to a tiny shorebird, a dog looks like a predator. If pets are permitted on the beach, keep them leashed and away from birds.
✅Pick up your trash. Food scraps attract predators that can attack nests and young birds, and litter can also harm birds if they eat it or become entangled. If no trash containers are available, take your trash with you and dispose of it properly. Never feed wildlife or bury your trash.
