Celebrating Women’s History Month Through Reproductive Justice & Black Feminist Thought
At Surge Reproductive Justice, we’ve worked hard to create spaces that empower Black women, women of color, and q***r and trans people of color—because reproductive justice is about more than just rights; it’s about liberation.
We envision a world free from reproductive oppression, racism, and violence, and our work is rooted in community-led advocacy and action. Through our campaigns, we’re building power and transforming systems:
✊🏾 Doulas 4 All – Our coalition wrote, lobbied, and passed ESHB 1881, establishing birth doulas as a profession in Washington state, securing Medicaid reimbursements to ensure accessible perinatal support.
🗣️ Our Words Build Power – A community-centered research and organizing process that uplifts QTBIPOC narratives of resistance to shape future reproductive justice campaigns and policy advocacy.
🤰🏾 Black Perinatal Health Campaign – A powerful partnership between Black birth workers, Black families, and Surge RJ to develop holistic solutions that support birthing people, their families, and Black birth workers.
🎤 Just Speak – Our storytelling and political education series, covering s*x positivity, abortion, and parenting through a social justice lens.
This Women’s History Month, join us in honoring the legacy of Black Feminist Strategies and reproductive justice. Help us continue this vital work by sharing or donating at surgereprojustice.org.
